Being in 1st place is over-rated, in the NBA.

It is if you don`t win the Finals or the World series. Kobe needs new teammates with balls!

:lmao: Lebron along with the Cavs will not be stopped this year, IF they can get Illcaca back. Lakers don`t know how to play with Kobe or maybe don`t like playing with Kobe anymore. They are a different team when he is not in the lineup, now don`t go thinking I`m bashing your boy but the truth is the Laker team plays better when Kobe is not there. Derelict get your boner on I said it! But I still think you are gay Derelict.

It's not Phil Jackson's style to actively motivate his team to play hard until the playoffs. If anyone can recall the Lakers teams that won 3 straight, they often got punked by poor teams on the road.
Phils likes to motivate his team through literature and the media. If the head coach doesn't give a crap about regular season games then why should the players. :basketball:

I don;t think the Shaq era dynasty teams finished first after their first ring in 2000.

This is true. It's difficult to roll up a lot of wins after you've become champs. Every team is gunning for you, night after night.

I really DO like watching the SE divison teams, i.e. OKC, ATL, Charlotte etc. Teams I woulda never watched, unless they played LAL, I'm watching now. Good young talent. ...and Steven Jackson.

You are making this claim with a sample size of 4 games?
This team with Kobe won 1 nba championship, got to the finals the year before and are 43-17 this year not including the 4 games Kobe missed which equals a .716 winning percentage.
2 full seasons + 60 games this year with Kobe is a lot more to go off of than your 4 game sample without Kobe.

This team is a lottery team without Kobe.

I love Kobe too, Nan, but I don't agree with this. Personally, I think they'd be #5-7 without Kobe.

I think the team is missing "money" guys...guys you can count on in crunch time...Gasol played tougher last year and did not defer as much..Bynum had less of a role on the team...Ariza filled the lanes on defense..slashed on offense and took shots when they were open...
One of the things that is wrong with the Laker offense is there are too many guys that need to be in the paint to be succesful..Gasol, Bynum, Artest and Odom when in need the ball in the post to be effective...there is just not enough room...at least with Ariza he added the slashing element...also he was great on the fast break...they are missing that...

Also, Lakers have nobody that can shoot from the outside consistently. missing knock down shooters.

The Bulls never had that problem. Neither did the early 2000's Lakers.
THIS Laker team has a hard time getting up.

I hate to say this, but no way this current team can win it all with that backcourt. Failing to make the Heinrich deal was an epic failure.
The defense is worse than bad. Jameer owned it yesterday.
Does Farmar even try to play defense? He just never seems to have a lock on his man.

LMAO! This is not a lottery team without Kobe, as a matter of fact they are a very good team without Kobe. Could they win a championship without Kobe? Hell no! You want to talk about a lottery team, take away Lebron from the cavs and you will see a lottery team.

Not so Kos! After winning their 1st title, the Lakers could not keep up the regular season's pace the following 2 years.

2001-2002 58-24 .707
2000-2001 56-26 .683
1999-2000 67-15 .817

Good work.
My bad.
I have mixed feelings about that '01-'02 team.
Let me just say, they weren't the best team in the West. God Bless David Stern!

They were the best team that year because they didnt choke in the big games like Sac town did...in game 7 sac had home court advantage and completly gave that game cause they were pusses.

Don`t forget the refs helped the Lakers out in that game.

You're talking about game 6...there were no issues with the refs and the calls in game 7.

people like to forget this cause it ruins their conspiracy theory but Sac got all the calls in game 5..they even fouled out Shaq in that game when nobody on Sac had more than 2 fouls.
To me game 6 was just a way of evening the numbers of bad calls against the Lakers in game 5.

Yes, the Sasha siging may bite Mitch in the ass this year. The lil bitch is useless for all that money, when we coulda had someone better, for cheaper, like JR Smith, for example.
